駒込のライブラリー

古いアパートを改修してつくられたギャラリー内の一角にあるライブラリースペースの内装計画。 ライブラリーとなるスペースは間口2.5m、奥行き10mと縦長で、空間奥に新たに設けられた窓から入る光がとても印象的であった。

ライブラリーの内装設計にあたり、この光がさらに増幅され、のびのびと全体に行き渡るような空間を作り出すことができないかと考えた。 床には反射性の強いエポキシ樹脂を流し込み、光をライブラリーの入口まで引き延ばすとともに、垂直方向にも空間に奥行きを与える。また、エポキシの層の奥には下地となる合板のテクスチャーがかすかに見え隠れし、床全体が密閉された蜃気楼のような印象を持つ。

さらに、新設のベンチ、分厚い側板のかわりに厚さ６ミリのフラットバーによって支えられた本棚が細長い空間の長手方向に強い水平のラインを作り出すことで、光の源となる窓へと向かう方向性をより強調させる。

新たな内装によって生み出された光の奥行きを持つ空間へと、人々が吸い込まれるようにして訪れ、アートの鑑賞とともにこのライブラリーで思い思いの時間を過ごせる場となることを期待している。

Library in Komagome

This is an interior renovation project for a private library in an old apartment turned art gallery.

The space is narrow, but the light flowing in from the window at the end, had a strong impression on me at first sight. In designing the interior, I strived to emphasise this light as to fill the entire space.

The highly reflective epoxy floor brings light to the entrance, and gives vertical depth to the space. In addition, the new bench and shelves supported with minimal metal bars, make strong horizontal lines enhancing the perspective converging at the light filled window.

I envision this light filled library will become a space where the visitors can quietly reflect upon their thoughts as well as appreciate works of art.
